J. Dennis Chalk Receives Charles D. Scott Award
On April 21, J. Dennis Chalk (RSCC Vice President & General Manager of Exane, Oil, Gas & Petrochemical Products) became a recipient of the 23rd. Annual Charles D. Scott Distinguished Career Award by The Wire & Cable Manufactrurers’ Alliance. WIRE & CABLE MANUFACTURERS ALLIANCE- A HISTORY OF SERVING WIRE & CABLE INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT The Wire & Cable Manufacturers’ Alliance (WCMA), established in 2004, continues activities of its predecessor organization, the Wire & Cable Clubs of America. The original Clubs were established to provide a business forum where wire and cable industry executives and representatives could meet to discuss developments affecting the industry, long and short term. THE CHARLES D. SCOTT DISTINGUISHED CAREER AWARD The Charles D. Scott Distinguished Career Award was established in 1985 by the membership of The New England Wire & Cable Club in association with Dick Callahan and his publication, Wire Industry News, to give public recognition to individuals in the wire and cable field who have served in the industry for a minimum of twenty five years and during that time have demonstrated outstanding professional acumen along with personal attributes of an exceptional degree. The Award is named for the late Charles D. Scott (1915-1983), founder and president of Northeast Wire Co., Holyoke, Massachusetts, who, as an outstanding businessman, kind and helpful friend and good citizen, personified those qualities which are the basis for the Award bearing his name. Dennis Chalk’s award citation reads: “In recognition of steadfast and dedicated service to the wire and cable industry, members of the Wire & Cable Manufacturers’ Alliance have selected J. Dennis Chalk as a recipient of its Distinguished Career Award. Industry colleagues salute the recipient for professional attainments and outstanding qualities of mind and character which have earned him or her the wire industry’s esteem, affection, and respect.” The following is Dennis Chalk’s biography as it appeared in the Awards Program: Born: January 29, 1955, Ossining, NY Residence: Columbia, Connecticut Education: BS Business Administration, Eastern Connecticut State University Interests: Family, Sports and Travel Married to Jerri. Daughters: Melissa (18) and Emily (13) Chalk started in the wire & cable industry directly after high school joining Tensolite in Peekskill, NY in 1973. Chalk progressed through the ranks starting as an extrusion operator eventually becoming a foreman in 1977. In 1979, he moved into the Technical Services Department at Tensolite as a Technician. In 1982, Chalk joined Brand-Rex as a Senior Product Engineer eventually becoming the Manager of Product Engineering in 1989. In 1993, he joined Delta Surprenant as the Manager of Applications and Specification Engineering. Chalk rejoined Brand-Rex in 1994 as the Director of Military Products a position he held until January of 2000. In January of 2000, Chalk joined Rockbestos-Surprenant Cable Corporation as Vice President of Electronic Products. In 2001, he served as Vice President of Engineering and in 2003 assumed the role of Vice President of Sales & Marketing. Chalk was promoted to his present position in January of 2007. Chalk is a member of NEMA and a past chairman of the SAE Subcommittee for US Navy Shipboard Cable. He is also a member of the Navy League. Chalk has co-authored papers presented at the IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility in 1983 and the International Wire & Cable Symposium in 1984. In 1985 he authored the article “Cable’s Braid is Optimized to Meet EMP Threat” published in Electronic Packaging & Production.
