RSCC To Reconfigure Manufacturing Facilities
On January 7, 2004, Rockbestos–Surprenant Cable Corporation (RSCC) announced that it will reconfigure its manufacturing facilities. All wire and cable manufacturing operations in the Clinton, MA facility will be scaled down and eventually ceased within the next six months. This does not affect the RSCC Heat Trace Division, which will continue it’s manufacturing operations in Clinton for the forseeable future. With the exception of our Heat Trace products, all of RSCC’s products will now be manufactured in either our East Granby, CT facility or at our PMC affiliate in Manchester, NH. The move is being made to embrace a “cellular” method of manufacturing our product lines, which will increase productivity and further enhance RSCC’s ability to better serve our customers.
During the past several months, RSCC evaluated our many markets and eliminated those we felt were not profitable, or did not fit into our core competencies. The completion of this exercise left us with excess capacity in the Clinton facility that could not be readily adapted to a cellular concept, which we plan to implement to support our remaining markets. The move of all products to our East Granby and PMC facilities will allow us to implement the market "cells" and will in turn make us more efficient and responsive to our key customers. Many improvements to the manufacturing lines and operations are being designed to provide optimal conditions to produce the highest quality wire and cable in the most efficient manner.
Our customers are a vital part of RSCC’s future. As a leader in the design and manufacture of high performance specialty cables, we are committed to meeting the needs of our customers throughout the world. Administrative offices will remain in Clinton, MA and your sales contacts will remain the same. In this turbulent time in the wire and cable industry, it is our goal to do everything possible to make RSCC competitive and efficient. We feel strongly that our move toward cellular manufacturing will help us accomplish these goals.
