Low Smoke, Single Conductors
The National Electrical Manufacturers
Association (NEMA) has worked to
create new specifications that
address a need for single conductors
that will meet the current U.S. Navy
requirements for smoke, toxicity, and
acid gas. The U.S. Navy will be
upgrading their specifications to
have a new requirement that the
single insulated conductors will be
halogen free. NEMA Types that begin
with the ZH designation will meet
this requirement. The single
insulated conductors are required to
be manufactured with either an
irradiation cross-linked polyolefin or
silicone insulation.
